Now for the first time, Practicing Medicine Without A License? details in layman's terms the Pauling/Rath Theory regarding vitamin C therapy for  cardiovascular disease.  The book covers the greater than 50-year history of the vitamin C theory of heart disease and the 12-year history of the Pauling therapy for cardiovascular disease. The book includes testimonials from former heart patients using their real names who overcame their disease using the Pauling Therapy.

The theory that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is related to a deficiency of vitamin C was first proposed by the Canadian physician G. C. Willis in 1953.  He found that atherosclerotic plaques form over vitamin-C-starved vascular tissues in both guinea pigs and humans. In 1989, after the discoveries of the Lp(a) cholesterol molecule (circa 1964) and its lysine binding sites (circa 1987), Linus Pauling and his associate Matthias Rath formulated a unified theory of heart disease and invented a cure. Vitamin C and lysine (and proline) in large amounts become Lp(a) binding inhibitors that restore vascular health and are patented to destroy atherosclerotic plaques.

Pauling's experiments proved that "simply administering the proper nutrients, in the proper combination, at the proper dosage could eradicate heart disease."  His findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (1990, Vol 87, pp 6204-6207). Pauling was awarded a patent on his formula.

Heart patients who have followed Linus Pauling's advice have recovered in approximately 30 days, and many have experienced significant relief in as little as 10 days.  The recoveries have only occurred after these former patients adopted the Pauling therapy, usually without their doctor's knowledge or consent.

A common theme in the book is that these brave souls who adopted the Pauling therapy quickly ended their pain and suffering, just as Linus Pauling predicted.  In case after case, recovery occurred soon after the individual abandoned the "old" cardiology and embarked on what was at the time a little-traveled path into the world of orthomolecular medicine.  When they strayed from the Pauling path, their disease returned.

Each incredible but true story in the book is told through the eyes of a former heart patient.  Some of the cases selected for inclusion in the book have now spanned more than 10 years.  Several of these recoveries occurred in patients who had been barely able to arise from their "death" beds. The named individuals are not seeking publicity, but they are willing to meet with reporters and discuss their individual cases and medical histories.

"Now I’ve got to the point where I think we can get almost complete control of cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes by the proper use of vitamin C and lysine.  It can prevent cardiovascular disease and even cure it."  Linus Pauling Interview, Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine, 1994.

Why do more than 50 percent of heart attacks and strokes occur in people without any known cardiovascular risk factors?

Why is cholesterol elevated in heart patients and why do coronary artery blockages occur despite taking statins to "lower cholesterol?"

Why do people with low cholesterol still suffer heart attacks and stroke?

Is there another test besides cholesterol that will tell me my heart disease risk?

Why don't cardiologists know about the Pauling therapy or support it for their patients who want to try it?

Why are diabetics and smokers really at greater risk for artery disease?

Why do blockages form in the arteries closest to the heart but not INSIDE the heart itself?

Why do nearly half of surgical heart procedures fail (why do the plaques grow back with a vengeance)?

Why don't most animals suffer the same cardiovascular disease as humans?

Why did the cardiovascular mortality rate decline by nearly half in the 1970s after Linus Pauling's book,  Vitamin C and the Common Cold, became a best seller?
Owen Fonorow graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. He is retired from AT&T Bell Laboratories in Naperville, Illinois and now teaches college-level computer science. In 1996 shortly after Linus Pauling died, Owen co-founded the Houston-based non-profit Vitamin C Foundation.  The Foundation's mission is to fund vitamin C research and help educate the public about the many health benefits of vitamin C.

Sally Snyder Jewell has worked in writing and editing in both the legal and medical arenas for over 30 years.  Sally became acquainted with Owen Fonorow and the Vitamin C Foundation when her husband, Bill Cook, was diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome.  She has since studied and trained extensively in the Pauling/Rath unified theory for heart disease and worked in the advancement of information regarding the Pauling protocol for heart disease.
